About us

AuTypical.in is a public purpose platform for showcasing the abilities of autistic children and young adults in the field of art. Autistic artists from all over India, from district towns to mega cities are exhibiting their creations here.

Autism is a spectrum of developmental conditions that impacts the way people communicate and experience the world around them. Every autistic person is different. Some are able to learn, live and work independently but many have learning differences, and co-occurring health conditions that require specialist support and assisted living throughout their lifespan. Aditi is a non-verbal autistic teen, aged 20. She communicates largely using an iPad and studies at the Ishanya India Foundation, a learning centre in Bengaluru. 2020 was a very unique year. The lockdown took Aditi’s understanding of structure and threw it out of the window, replacing it with something new and unknown.

Akshay Mathur is a 30 year old, autistic artist, presently pursuing Bachelor of Fine Arts. He is interested in different art forms, including music, dance, singing, drawing, painting, photography and graphic designing. He also partakes in sports like swimming, badminton, lawn tennis, cycling and skating .He has participated and won many music and sports competitions. His paintings were displayed in various art exhibitions and online platforms. He enjoys sketching, freehand drawing, oil pastels painting with watercolors, acrylic and oil paints. He loves abstract, pop art, realism and surreal art. Akshay was diagnosed with Autism when he was 5 and had most of his schooling in special schools. He passed his X and XII exams from NIOS.

Ali is a 16 year old cancer survivor with autism. At the age of 1.5 years, he was diagnosed with blood cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy treatments, during this time he was also diagnosed with developmental delay and autism. He enjoys creative activities. He is based in Ahmedabad.

Age: 22 years

Amin is a bright young boy with twinkling eyes and a golden heart. An artist, a model maker, an enthusiastic swimmer, Amin is multi-talented and immensely abled. Amin's language and social communication difficulties were noticed at an early age of 2.5years and was later diagnosed with Autism. Inspite of all the challenges in comprehension and sensory difficulties, Amin always excelled in his areas of interest and made sincere coping efforts throughout his school years.

Anubha Agrawal is a 27-year old, She works in varied media – pencil colours, crayons, water colours, and recently, oil on canvas.Anubhahas won many accolades for her creations. Her works were displayed at e-CAPA2021 by The Art Sanctuary, Beyond Limits 2021 by FOD, New Delhi, Soul Beats 2022 byPure Hearts, Saga and Family of Disabled at Gurugram, eCAPA 2022 by The Art Sanctuary,New Delhi and at the 31 st Ravi Jain Memorial Foundation Exhibition 2022 atDhoomimal Gallery, New Delhi.

Dhairya Kumar Pal is a 16 year old non-verbal autistic student with a keen interest in art. He was diagnosed at the age of 3, his therapies were started at the age of 4 and are still continuing. At the age of 7,Dhairya began coloring with crayons. During the phase of pandemic and related lockdowns, his interest in colors grew. This was nurtured by his mother and Dhairya now works with watercolours, acrylics on paper and canvas board. He is preparing for Class III through NIOS. He resides in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Age: 21 years

On 6th Feb every year, Jai eats pizza, burger and chocolate cake to his heart’s content. This Feb, he turned sweet 21. He waits the whole year for his birthday. Along with Autism, he also has Type1 diabetes. He goes to Vasant Valley school and is awesome with Maths and Computer skills. He also is musically inclined and can sing any song he likes. It just takes a few seconds for him to play a song tune on a piano. Music is his life. He also has a photographic memory.

When he didn’t even know any alphabets, he would write movie names backwards. He would also remember all roads and directions. He can name all movies he has watched ever in a particular cinema hall since he was a child in the same sequence.

Karan Pratap is a 29-year old autistic artist. His sketches cover subjects of daily life and shows his concern for humanity. His creative interests also include music, both instrumental and vocal. He is a graduate in Arts, his family and friends are proud of his handsome personality.

Niveditha is an energetic young adult with autism. She is a workaholic who likes to busy herself learning new things. Aged 35 now, she works at the Amulya Vocation Centre in Bengaluru. For her education, Niveditha went to a mainstream school till Class VII, which she completed with the assistance of her mother who became her shadow teacher! She developed her fine motor skills and concentration with lots of training.

Niveditha cleared her Class X exams through the NIOS system. Initially, fine arts was a leisure time activity for her and as time went by she became very interested in it and produced some very good quality works, which were appreciated. She is also fond of cooking. As with many autistic children and young adults, her mother is her greatest champion.

Priyank is pursuing a BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) degree from IGNOU. An accomplished autistic artist, he secured 89 per cent for his class XII exams (2020). His subjects were: Computer, English, Painting, Tabla and Physical Education. He has a diverse range of talents-he is an expert in poster making, plays guitar and tabla and can pick up the tune of any song in English and Hindi on these musical instruments. His skill sets in computers include good knowledge of Microsoft word, Excel, Power Point, HTML and C++. He has a very good typing speed both in English and Hindi. An energetic and active 25-year old, he enjoys skating. Priyank is based in New Delhi.

RM Kirthik, an autistic teen cleared his Class X through NIOS. He did his schooling from Brio Learning Center, Arumbakkam, Chennai. Aged 21, he is good in art and craft works. At a stretch he can sit for an hour to complete his work and takes a break thereafter for sometime. Art is a recent skill he acquired and became devoted to, during the pandemic related lockdown.

Ramam is a sports loving young adult with autism. He is 25 years old and enjoys cycling and swimming. He runs marathons, plays badminton and table tennis. Art is something he picked up during the pandemic and has done digital artwork on Paint 3D. He works in the field of data entry.

Sahil is a 24 year old non-verbal autistic young man who likes to express himself through art. He enjoys making acrylic Rangoli designs. His mother Mrs Anjali Rawate runs a home based vocational center for autistic children in Nanded.

8-year old Sarvagya Lohia was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3 years. His therapies were started immediately, however, as of now, he is taking not any therapies. Sarvagya has a keen interest in arts and sports including yoga. He likes to skate and has been practicing since he was 2. Recently, he has taken to yoga under the guidance of a trained professional. Suhrid is a cherubic 15-year old non-verbal autistic teen with co-occurring epilepsy. He has an intense interest in Art and is training to become a professional artist in abstract expressionism. His creations in Abex are rated as meritorious. Suhrid studies in Vasant Valley School where the major highlights of his IEP (Individualized Education Plan) are in the domain of art. Suhrid is a visual learner.

Swastik Pathak was diagnosed autistic at the age of 2.5 years when he went to kindergarten school with other neurotypical children in the UK. Since his childhood, he showed extraordinary skills in singing songs in Hindi, Bengali, nursery rhymes and Christmas songs in English. He memorised tables in English, rhymes in Hindi and Bengali and also the ‘Ramayana for Children’ in a rhythmic tone. At the age of 6, while in the UK, his music potential was highly appreciated not only by a choir group which he regularly attended, but also by the Director of Victoria College of Music, London who allowed him to appear for grade exams of music alongside normal students.

Tanush is a 5 year old child. At the age of 3, he was diagnosed with autism. As with many autistic children, at that time Tanush had high levels of hyperactivity. He did not respond to his name, he was unresponsive towards his parents and environment. Changes in him began when Tanush started therapy sessions with Dr Shruti Patil. There were qualitative improvements and learning benefits began to take hold. He has developed a fondness for drawing pictures and everyone likes what he draws.

Vaishnav is from Kochi and 23 years of age. He enjoys painting using different materials such as bubble wrap, plastic scrub, sponge, etc. His paintings are mostly acrylic on paper. During the pandemic, he did quite a number of artworks as fun activity.

Vidita is a Class XI, Humanities student of Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave, Delhi. Applied Art is one of her optional subjects. She is also fond of music and dance and in her leisure time practices Indian music and Kathak dance. Her parents grasped her autism related challenges when she was in Class II-III. Like so many autistic teens, Vidita struggles with difficulties in concentration, logical thinking and her urge for repetitive talking.

 I’m overwhelmed by such marvellous works of art. Language simply cannot describe the colourful and vivid ideas one has in their mind. Art is an artist’s expression of their innermost landscape, their perspective of the world, and how they experience reality. In that sense, these young artists have shared with us a part of their personality that would normally be hidden deep inside. It is enriching to learn that beneath the shell of autism is a child with enormous potential craving for equal learning opportunities and a loving word of appreciation. Congratulations to all artists and to their parents. Wishing them all bright future. Keep shining and smiling!
